SOULSCAPE:

The evidence of angels in our midst

Catherine Galasso, WoonsocketCall.com

Angels are in our midst ..watching, comforting and guiding. As divine messengers, they impart God’s grace, filling the air around us, going to and fro, bringing treasures of joy.

An innumerable company of angels surrounds us. With ears and eyes of faith, we can almost hear and see them. Whispering encouragement, protecting us from harm’s way, and performing little day-to-day miracles, their messages of hope are always within our hearts.

They are givers of strength and consolation. If we are lonely, angels are there at our side. They are continuous reminders that we are not alone.

Angels can come to us in disguise. Their messages can often come in a surge of creative ideas, solutions to life’s tribulations, or a mysterious stranger that helps us in times of need.

Reader Linda Tillson wrote to me the following experience. "In the winter of 1970, I was driving to college in a blinding snowstorm. I took a left turn across a four-lane highway during the morning rush hour. In the midst of that dangerous position, my car stalled. It would not start again. Terrified, I expected to be hit at any moment, visibility was so poor. I placed my head on the steering wheel and prayed, ‘Father, please help me.’ Instantly, a man knocked on my window. He said, ‘Put your foot on the accelerator all the way to the floor and your car will start.’ In five seconds, my car started right up. I turned to say thank you, but there was no one there. There was no man walking at seven o’clock in the morning, in a blinding snowstorm, in the middle of a four-lane highway, and there was no stopped car. I knew I had seen an angel. He did not even hang around to receive praise for himself or even to be thanked."

I recall an occurrence that a friend told me of a dear grandmother who almost lost her 4-year-old granddaughter. The little girl was very sick in the hospital with a high temperature. When the distraught grandmother walked into the child’s hospital room, the tiny girl looked up from her bed with a wondrous look on her sweet face. "Grandma," she whispered, "do you see the angels?" The grandmother questioned, "Where?" Her granddaughter’s eyes looked straight to the corner of the room. "Over there," she said, "aren’t they beautiful, they want me to come and play with them. They are so beautiful." The grandmother said nothing, but by the grace of God’s miracle, the child was restored back to perfect health.

This precious little girl was able to see the unseen. Those of us who have not seen must remember, "We live by faith, not by sight." A month later, the child was at her grandmother’s home, and my friend quietly asked the thankful grandmother, "Does your granddaughter remember seeing the angels?" The young girl overheard the conversation and replied with a beautiful smile, "Of course I remember the angels ..they went and got Jesus and he made me all better."

Where there is God’s love there are angels, and they help to carry our burdens. A force pulling us back from danger, they protect us from harm at God’s bidding. Angels are very tender, gentle, and most often anonymous as they continually direct us. Do you think your accomplishments were achieved by you alone? God needed someone in your position, just where you are now, for a reason. He wants us to be the most successful that we can be, and that can only happen as we do his will and work with the awareness that we are surrounded by angels. "For He shall give His angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways" (Psalm 91:11).

We do not worship angels, but they always gather joyfully around us, as we think about, converse with, and worship God our Father.

May you be touched by angels today.
